Budgeting Your Deck Project

A deck budget works best when the price is firm and you know what drives it. Our bids are firm quotes, not estimates, so you'll never pay more than quoted, and we'll help you get the most deck for what you want to spend.

What is this really going to cost?

Are you afraid to ask for a quote because you’re worried about the number, or about the number changing once the work starts? Many homeowners have heard stories of contractors who bid low, then add charges along the way. It’s hard to plan a project when you can’t trust the price.

Key question: Is the price you’re quoted the price you’ll pay?

That concern is well founded

Many homeowners end up with a stack of quotes that are hard to compare. One leaves out the permits, another assumes a flat yard, another never mentions hauling away the old deck. Big-box packages can look cheaper until the extras arrive.

A firm price changes the conversation

What they found with J.R. is a simple rule: you’ll never pay more than quoted. He visits your property, listens, looks at the site and gives you a firm price, and the visit and quote are free. If you change the design along the way, you’ll agree on the new price before the work changes.

Knowing what drives the price helps, too. Size, material, height, the number of levels, and features like stairs, railings, lighting and shade make up most of the cost. Treated pine builds the most deck for the money, while composite costs more up front and less over the years. Tell us your budget at the start and we’ll design to it, or plan in phases so this year’s deck is ready for next year’s pergola. No project is too small, from an entry arbor to a multi-level deck.

More Questions About Budgeting Your Project

Do you offer financing?

We can discuss payment arrangements for larger projects. While we don't directly provide financing, we're flexible in working with customers on payment timing. Please discuss your situation during consultation.

Why do your prices differ from big box store quotes?

Big box installers often use less experienced crews, thinner materials, minimal engineering, and may exclude items like proper flashing, debris removal, or permit handling. Our prices reflect premium materials, experienced craftsmen, proper structural engineering, included permits, and comprehensive warranty—factors that affect long-term value and longevity.

Can you work within my budget?

Usually yes. We can adjust scope, suggest alternative materials, or phase construction to fit most budgets. Being upfront about your budget helps us recommend the best approach—perhaps a smaller deck now with a planned expansion later, or treated lumber instead of composite. Let's discuss your priorities.

How long is a quote valid?

Material prices can fluctuate, so quotes are typically valid for 30 days. If you're not ready to proceed immediately, that's fine—just contact us to confirm current pricing when you're ready to move forward.

Will my price change if I make design changes?

If changes affect materials or labor scope, we'll provide an updated quote. Minor adjustments often have no cost impact. We always discuss pricing implications before proceeding with changes, so there are never surprises. We're transparent about costs throughout the process.

Is there a minimum project size?

We take on projects of various sizes, from small entry arbors to large multi-level decks. Smaller projects do have some economies-of-scale challenges, but we're happy to discuss any project. Contact us to talk about what you have in mind.

How does your pricing compare to competitors?

We offer competitive pricing for the quality level we deliver. Cheaper quotes exist, but often with less experienced installers, inferior materials, or excluded items. Comparing quotes, examine what's included and the contractor's credentials. Our firm-quote guarantee and award-winning service provide real value.

Do prices include cleanup and debris removal?

Yes, complete site cleanup and debris removal are standard parts of every project. When we leave, your yard is clean and ready to enjoy—no piles of lumber, sawdust, or construction materials left behind. This is included in your quoted price.

Ask the Right Questions

Do you charge extra for projects outside San Antonio city limits?

Generally no, as long as the project is within our normal service area. We don't add travel surcharges for locations we regularly serve. For projects at the outer edge of our territory, we'll discuss any considerations when providing your quote.

How much does a deck cost?

Deck costs vary based on size, materials, height, features, and site conditions. A small pressure-treated deck might start around $4,000; large composite decks with premium features can exceed $25,000. The only way to get accurate pricing is a site visit and custom quote. Contact us for a free consultation and firm pricing.

Are your quotes estimates or firm prices?

Our bids are firm quotes, NOT estimates. The price we quote is the price you pay—you will never pay more. This firm-quote approach protects you from the surprise cost overruns common in construction. We can guarantee prices because Jose personally assesses every project and our experience enables accurate scoping.

Do you charge for estimates?

No, consultations and quotes are completely free with no obligation. Jose visits your property, discusses your vision, assesses the site, and provides a firm price—all at no cost. There's no risk in getting a quote, so contact us to start the conversation.

What affects deck pricing?

Multiple factors influence deck pricing: square footage, material choice (Trex costs more than treated lumber), deck height and complexity, stairs and railings, built-in features, site accessibility, and permit requirements. Each project is unique, which is why we provide custom quotes rather than per-square-foot estimates.

How much does a Trex deck cost compared to wood?

Trex material costs roughly 30-50% more than pressure-treated lumber. A $10,000 treated lumber deck might cost $13,000-15,000 in Trex. However, Trex eliminates ongoing staining/sealing expenses (potentially thousands over the deck's life) and typically lasts longer, affecting total cost of ownership significantly.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept common payment methods for your convenience. Specific payment options are discussed when we provide your quote. Contact us at (210) 789-5677 to discuss your project and payment arrangements.
